7 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR YOGA ROCK!

I can tell you this from my own experience of overcoming the grip of depression & anxiety. These 7 steps gave me my life back.

1. SET YOUR INTENTION

An intention for your yoga practice plays a vital role in developing the foundation of your yoga practice.

To create your intention, you should clarify why you want to practice yoga and how you want to incorporate yoga into your daily routine.

2. CREATE A SPACE THAT INSPIRES YOU

Dedicate some areas in your home that you can relax into.

Whether you have room to create your own yoga studio or a small area to create a small oasis…all that is important is that you create a zen area that inspires you. It should be an area that is quiet, tranquil and free of clutter so that can move fluidly on your mat.

3. MAKE A PLAN BY SCHEDULING YOUR MAT TIME

Part of creating an intention for your yoga practice should also include creating a scheduled time that you will practice your yoga and then stick to your plan.

4. DON’T BE AFRAID TO TRY A YOGA CLASS

If you are newer to yoga, try taking a beginner’s yoga class. This can help you build a solid foundation by learning the proper breathing and movement techniques to get the most out of your practice.

You should evolve your yoga practice over time and continue to build on your yoga by learning new poses. As you advance your practice, you will grow your mind-body-spirit connection.

5. MEDITATE

Meditation and yoga are integral components together.

Meditation helps you calm and center your mind. You may use a simple mantra to help support your focus.

Repeat your mantra to yourself in a natural, rhythmic inner voice. Insert different mantras that feel right to you. Check out some simple yoga moves below to get you started.

  • Breathe in for 8 seconds
  • Hold for 8 seconds while saying your mantra in your inner voice
  • Exhale for 8 seconds

You can also use guided meditations to help you. I LOVE using the Calm meditation app myself. You can use a variety of meditations that best suit you. They have both free and paid subscription options available for use.

5. KEEP A JOURNAL

When you embrace your journey, you can bring beautiful transformation and experiences into your life.

Keep a journal- write down whatever comes to mind after your yoga and meditation practice.

Your journal will document a beautiful story for you to look back on. It will tell your story of the changes you have experienced in your mind, body & spirit. Your story will inspire you to keep going and can also serve a purpose of inspiring others through their own transformation.

7. PRACTICE BEING PRESENT THRU BREATH

Throughout your day practice being present by using your breath. By slowing down your breath and being centered in the moment, you will support the unity of your body and mind.

Your breath restores your life force and can ease any tension and anxiety that creeps into your day. Full inhales and exhales can bring you back into alignment. Remember your mantra and….

  • Breathe in for 8 seconds
  • Hold for 8 seconds while saying your mantra in your inner voice
  • Exhale for 8 seconds

…now just let all that tension just melt away.
