EMBRACING MY HAIR AT AGE 40
After 25 years of coloring my increasing grey stands, I finally came to a decision…it was time to embrace it.
I called it “”OPERATION SILVER FOX” …lol….
I can’t thank my best friend & soul sister Jamie VanAlstine enough for holding my hand through this process. She is an AMAZING person and is the proud owner of The Hair Company salon. So here’s a shout out to her and ALL the ladies there- they are absolutely beautiful people inside and out! You leave the salon feeling so beautiful, uplifted, connected & loved. I highly recommend them!!!
I wanted to share my story for those who have considered this decision and are maybe still on the fence.
This is my 6 week pic with no root touch up…a nice skunky look….
This was NOT any easy process, it was kinda messy and a even a little scary at times. Kind of like my experience so far in my journey of trying to live a life with more self-love.
I had to come to the understanding and acceptance that my long hair would at some point would need to be cut to accomplish my goal. This transformation became my 2019 New Year’s Resolution.
It took lots of highlighting...little stages at a time…over a six month period.
I have this awesome rusty hard water (sarcasm) at my house- so that has definitely played a roll in this journey. I would say that it has played a major part in the reason I needed to chop my locks.
I have used so much clarifying and rust remover hair products that it has definitely impacted my hair’s resiliency on my previously colored and then later lightened sections of my hair. Which is what I have been working on cutting off right now. Starting fresh.
And yes.…I use a really good water softener and use a shower filter too….my previously processed hair soaks up rust and minerals like a sponge.
To help keep my hue neutral- I tone my hair with Wella T18 Lightest Ash Blonde, use Martix Brass Off (blue) shampoo and conditioner, a clarfying shampoo, along with Malibu Hard Water treatments.
I do a Malibu Hard Water treatment and tone as needed, which is every 2-3 weeks or so.
Bless Jamie’s heart for all of her hard work and care she puts into her work. She helped me make this a fun experience for me and I’ll always appreciate that!
I am so happy I made the decision to rock it! 💚
Embrace your journey! 💚
